The Foundation MAD is a platform and workshop for Emergent Art: art that exists in the exiting world between cultural and cutting edge technological developments.
MAD emergent art center is laboratory, platform and provider on the intersection of art, science and technology.
MAD addresses artists, designers, scientists, public groups, institutions, governments and businesses. This on regional as well as national and international level.
Internet, broadband webcasting, networks and other ICT offer the possibility to represent interactive research, development, presentation, production, distributions, and discussions that are accessible for public.
Activities are being developed in three levels:
- MADlab: laboratory for technology and art
- MADnet: platform for artists, scientists en technologists
- MADpub: presentation of emergent art
Vision
Transparancy of technology
Unlike anybody else, artists are capable of experimenting with technology in an open-minded, independent way and toying with the effects of technology on sociëty and culture and develop this. The growing distance between civilians and technological state-of-the-art makes it necessary for artists to offer qualitatively highgrade resistance.
Autonomous technoculture
Eindhoven is a strong region as far as technology and design are concerned. However, there's insufficient contact between artists and technologists. On a European and mondial scale, the strength of Eindhoven's technology-status isn't credible without a well-developed social-cultural support. Striving must be to join forces on the creative field to stimulate the cultural implementation of technology independant of bureaucratically-economically steered relations.
Activating synergy
Knowledge, creativity and curiosity are [in combination] a very strong factor for innovation. These qualities occur above average with scientists as well as with artists. By letting these groups work and experiment together, unprecedented possibilities come forward. Developing the best of these two worlds in togetherness will give new impulses to both art and technology.

MAD fungeert als laboratorium, platform en provider voor Emergent Art: kunst die ontstaat vanuit het spanningsveld tussen culturele - en cutting-edge technologische ontwikkelingen.
De Stichting MAD (Multi-Art-Disc, 1995), opgericht als kunstenaarsintiatief, heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een zeer actieve organisatie die verbindingen ontwikkeld tussen kunst, wetenschap en technologie.
MAD richt zich tot kunstenaars, ontwerpers, wetenschappers, technologen, publieksgroepen, onderwijs-instellingen, overheden en bedrijven; zowel regionaal, nationaal als internationaal. Netwerken, ICT en nieuwe media bieden de mogelijkheid onderzoek, productie, presentatie, distributie en discussie op interactieve wijze aan de orde te stellen en voor brede publieksgroepen toegankelijk te maken.
Activiteiten worden ontwikkeld en gerealiseerd op basis van drie kerntaken:
- MADlab: laboratorium voor technologie en kunst (creative lab)
- MADnet: platform voor kunstenaars, onderwijs, onderzoekers en technologen
- MADpub: presentatie, discussie en distributie van emergent art
Visie
Transparantie van technologie
Kunstenaars zijn als geen ander in staat onbevangen en onafhankelijk met technologie te experimenteren en met de effecten van technologie op maatschappij en cultuur te spelen en dit te ontwikkelen. De groeiende afstand tussen de burger en de technologische state-of-the-art, maakt het noodzakelijk dat kwalitatief tegenspel wordt geboden door deskundige kunstenaars.
Autonome technocultuur
In de qua technologie en design sterke regio Eindhoven, is onvoldoende contact tussen kunstenaars en technologen. Europees en mondiaal is de kracht van de technologie-status van Eindhoven niet geloofwaardig zonder een ontwikkelde maatschappelijk-culturele ondersteuning. Gestreefd moet worden naar bundeling van krachten op creatief gebied om onafhankelijk van de bureaucratisch-economisch gestuurde verhoudingen de culturele implementatie van technologie te stimuleren.
De synergie activeren
Kennis, creativiteit en nieuwsgierigheid zijn [gecombineerd] een zeer krachtige factor voor innovatie. Deze eigenschappen komen zowel bij wetenschappers als bij kunstenaars meer dan gemiddeld voor. Door deze groepen te laten samenwerken en te laten experimenteren komen ongekende mogelijkheden naar voren. Het beste van deze twee werelden in gezamenlijkheid ontwikkelen zal zowel de kunst als de technologie nieuwe impulsen geven.
