Touching Digital Crafts

discover, create, discuss –
Future Design Tools

July 10

Curious Investigations is a series of events for designers, artists, architects, organized by MAD emergent art center and partners.

Touching Digital Crafts
How does digital technology empower creative disciplines to design what was once considered impossible? What does generative art, parametric design and mass-customized crafts mean? How can you use the qualities of the computer in your creation process, while keeping control over the authenticity of your art? And how much of a nerd do you need to be to do digital creation and production? (hint: not very!)

Learn more about this during the event, which will include a presentation, a workshop and an open discussion on the topic.
Register now and discover new ways of working in design and idea generation. This half day is packed with information and gives you a chance to try and experiment hands on, with professional coaching. Also addressed are Rapid Prototyping, Materialize and Fablabs.

During the workshop we use among others the Repper application, which is provided beforehand to the participants.
You are working individually on your own laptop or a PC/MAC locally.
In collaboration with studio:ludens.

For: designers, artists, architects (students and professionals). The maximum number of participants is 8.
Damage: € 25,- per person (including a full Pro licence - value € 30,- of the Repper software!)
When: 10:30 – 14:00 hours, Saturday 10 July 2010
Where: MAD lab – SWA building – Strijp-S – Eindhoven. Directions are provided after registration.

Picnic Amsterdam

22 - 24 September

The world around us is changing fast, and not all the changes are positive. We’re facing the biggest natural, social and economic challenges our world has ever seen. We’ve addressed some of these issues in the past, but the days of just talking are over. It’s time to take action.
To make an impact, we need some help. So we’re asking you – yes, YOU – to roll up your sleeves and Redesign the World with us at PICNIC ’10. Are you up for the challenge?

Of course we can’t possibly redesign the whole world in three days, so we’re limiting our focus to Life, Cities, Media and Design. The high-impact changes these areas are undergoing provide real opportunities to make a difference. PICNIC ’10 brings you a platform to create new solutions for a better world.

THE BODILY TURN

JUNE 18
An evening conversation on interface studies.
Location: NIMk
Date: Friday June 18, 2010
doors open 8:00 p.m., program begins 8:30 p.m.
Entrance free
Please make reservations (elena@salto.nl)
(English spoken)

http://nimk.nl/nl/agenda/the-bodily-turn

At this evening session, the Interface Studies Group will present the ‘interface’ as the centre of technology mediated experience and will reveal trends, notions and tangible prototypes that stretch and challenge the still predominant screen – spectator arrangement.
In contrast with traditional cinema and TV, in what may be called the 'post-PC' era, mobile and haptic interfaces and Reactive Environments are putting the embodied presence of the user back on stage. By engaging other senses and modalities such as touch, voice, movement and mobility and by taking into account the user's sensorial and affective dimensions, new forms of interaction, knowledge production, and forms of sociality are made possible.

May 27: Upgrade!

Upgrade! Eindhoven presents Jodi, interviewed by TAC Director, Walter van der Cruijsen, who will discuss their work and influences. Van der Cruijsen, an internationally renown digital art initiatives pioneer and digital artist himself, is the perfect person to contextualize Jodi’s groundbreaking artistic contributions.

Jodi is 2 internet artists, Joan Heemskerk (NL) and Dirk Paesmans (BE). In the mid 1990s, they established a visual language for artwork created specifically for the web. Their background also includes video and photography, which can clearly be seen in their “Screen Grab” period during the early 2000s. They have since progressed to software art and installations involving web based technologies, such as Google Earth combined with video game aesthetics. They are without doubt among the most significant artists working with the internet as their primary medium.

Venue: TAC, Temporary Art Centre, located across the street from the Philips Stadium.
Vonderweg 1, 5611 BK Eindhoven
May 27, 20:00 – 22:30.
Doors open 19:30, please be on time.

27 Mei: Upgrade!

Upgrade!

Lokatie: TAC, Temporary Art Centre.
Vonderweg 1, 5611 BK Eindhoven
27 mei, 20:00 – 22:30.

Lift10 'Connected People'

5 till 7 May Geneva

Lift10 will gather one thousand participants to explore the most overlooked aspect of innovation: people. Known in techno-parlance as users, people ultimately define the success of all technological and entrepreneurial projects. Their approaches are unique, influenced by cultural and generational diversity. Let's explore the myths and uncover the reality behind the "connected people".

Testlab V2

20 May

Rather than debating the medium’s hypothetical possibilities, Test_Lab: Urban Screen Savers will critically reflect on the urban screen as an artistic medium on the basis of live demonstrations. Which shortcomings of the urban screen can be distilled from present-day urban hacker culture? How do artists that make use of urban screens cope with our media-dense urban environments? And which topics do these artists aspire to address through urban screenings? As is customary at V2_’s Test_Lab, the audience will form a hands-on critical test panel for the demonstrated artworks.
